How Much X-Ray and Gamma-ray Data Are in the HEASARC's
Archive?
Last Update: 2008 Jun 03
As of the mid-2008, there were about 18 Terabytes (TB = 1 billion kB)
of X-ray and gamma-ray data in the HEASARC's archive, compared to 1.8 TB at the
start of 2000 and 0.3 TB at the start of 1995. Recent growth has been mostly
due to the increasing size of the Swift (now 5.9 TB), INTEGRAL (now 4.1 TB),
Suzaku (now 1.6 TB) and XMM-Newton (now 1.5 TB) archives. Other HEASARC
missions which are currently being archived include Chandra (now 0.9 TB) and
RXTE (now 1.8 TB).
We expect that the HEASARC archive volume will almost double in size
to 32 TB by mid-2010 due to the further growth of these mission archives, as
well as the start of the archive of the shortly to be launched (mid-2008)
GLAST mission. For more detailed statistics, including a breakdown
of the data holdings by mission, check out the
HEASARC Usage Statistics webpage.
